Beethoven - Symphony No. 5 (FULL)

Beethoven - Symphony No. 5 (FULL) - Symphony No. 5 in C minorThe four-note opening motif are known worldwide, with the motif appearing frequently in popular culture, from disco versions to rock and roll covers, to uses in film and television.1 First movement: Allegro con brio 2 Second movement: Andante con moto3 Third movement: Scherzo. Allegro4 Fourth movement: AllegroThe Symphony No. 5 in C minor of Ludwig van Beethoven, Op. 67, was written between 1804–1808. It is one of the best-known compositions in classical music, and one of the most frequently played symphonies. First performed in Vienna's Theater an der Wien in 1808, the work achieved its prodigious reputation soon afterward. E. T. A. Hoffmann described the symphony as "one of the most important works of the time". The symphony consists of four movements.Since the Second World War it has sometimes been referred to as the "Victory Symphony". "V" is the Roman character for the number five; the phrase "V for Victory" became well known as a campaign of the Allies of World War II. That Beethoven's Victory Symphony happened to be his Fifth (or vice versa) is coincidence. Some thirty years after this piece was written, the rhythm of the opening phrase – "dit-dit-dit-dah" – was used for the letter "V" in Morse code, though this is probably also coincidental. The BBC, during World War Two, prefaced its broadcasts to Europe with those four notes, played on drums. The Fifth Symphony had a long development process, as Beethoven worked out the musical ideas for the work. The first "sketches" (rough drafts of melodies and other musical ideas) date from 1804 following the completion of the Third Symphony. However, Beethoven repeatedly interrupted his work on the Fifth to prepare other compositions, including the first version of Fidelio, the Appassionata piano sonata, the three Razumovsky string quartets, the Violin Concerto, the Fourth Piano Concerto, the Fourth Symphony, and the Mass in C. The final preparation of the Fifth Symphony, which took place in 1807–1808, was carried out in parallel with the Sixth Symphony, which premiered at the same concert.Beethoven was in his mid-thirties during this time; his personal life was troubled by increasing deafness. In the world at large, the period was marked by the Napoleonic Wars, political turmoil in Austria, and the occupation of Vienna by Napoleon's troops in 1805. The symphony was written at his lodgings at the Pasqualati House in Vienna. The final movement quotes from a revolutionary song by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle.

The first part is outright inspiring. I imagined some kind of black-white monofilm showing a late19th/early20th century sea battle. It's 2 : 00 AM in the night, the sea is rough and high waves are making it difficult to maneuver.\n0:09 radar spots enemy battleship\n0:16 captian confirms the radar sightings, gives orders to turn on the lights\n0:28 lights spot enemy battleship\n0:31 all men are rushing to the battlestations\n0:52 beginning to fire at the enemy ship, cannons blast away\n1:36 the tides turn, enemy ship opens fire\n1:54 a fierce battle begins, first marines drop dead from our deck\n2:19 the tide turns again, our crew gets a hold and masters the waves, getting the upper hand\n2:57 our ship lands 3 devastating hits against the enemy ship, fires light up, covered by dark smoke\n3:01 the enemy ship emerges from the smoke, taking direct course at our ship, panic breaks out\n3:20 panic turns into bravery, our crew decides to take the enemy ship head-on.\n3:31 our ship takes 4 direct hits from the enemy ship\n3:39 noone got injured, a breeze of hope\n3:49 a marine reports we are taking on water\n4:00 but there seems to be no damage\n4:11 the leak is discovered, after disbelive, panic spreads once again\n4:30 our crew is now trying to get to the rescue boats\n4:41 the rescue boats are beeing lowered into the water, if you listen closely, you can hear the fires of our ship burning\n4:54 the enemy ship closes in and turns on the searchlights\n5:05 our survivors are rowing as fast as they can to escape the nearing cone of light\n5:15 the searchlights turn off, we are in safety for the moment\n5:33 another battleship closes in on the rescue boats from the opposite direction\n5:42 it is one of our own ships, the survivors are rescued\n6:08 what is that?\n6:10 the enemy battleship appears once again\n6:19 the crew and our survivors rush to the battlestations, using this second chance to fight\n6:31 our ship is going full speed towards the enemy ship\n6:41 both ships open fire, heavy cannons trade blows (the high instruments (flutes etc.) represent our cannon hits, the low instruments (brass etc.) represent the enemys cannons firing at us\n7:04 the enemy ship lands 2 devastating blows, our marines are flying through the air, chaos breaks out\n7:10 the numbness and shock of our crew, that lost several limbs during the impact\n7:15 the enemy ship blasts away and sinks our ship, everyone dies. Who needs happy endings anyways?
As long as there are humans beethoven's music will be immortal.

2018 anyone?
I love how Beethoven always ends optimistic moments in his pieces with moments of definite anger and defiance! Heavy metal of the late 18th-early 19th century!!
I feel like kind of a sinner when I listen to some rap and metal... but I feel pretty good about putting this into my brain.

If only Mozart live longer. They could have met each other. The first time Beethoven go to vienna he want to find mozart so they could study together but his mother was very ill so he goes back to his hometown and mozart dies. It could be a Real epic battle or they will make the greatest classical music ever made.

Beethoven had patience. He spent 8 years perfecting this symphony. . .had 14 version of the 2nd movement. Did three endings before deciding the third was the best even though he was not totally satisfied with it.

Valter Barbu

He is dead, but music - it's forever! He is not dead, because music forever. I like you Beethoven
Beethoven was actually a heavy metal hard rocker - just born too early. He would be overjoyed to see the Fifth performed with electric instruments. :)
